4 Must-Have Playground Accessories

There are many things to consider before building your playground, but the most important part of any playground plan is the actual playground accessories. Choosing from the popular playground equipment out there can be difficult which is why we’ve compiled this list of 4 must-have playground accessories. These pieces of playground equipment form the basis of any good playground.

Slides

If there isn’t a slide, is it really a playground? The majority of playgrounds have multiple slides to accomodate a wide range of age groups. It can be helpful to divide your playground into two sections - one for younger children and another for school age kids. Small slides are great introductory playground accessories for young guests, and large slides are always popular with the older kids.

Swings

Like slides, swings come in various forms to meet the needs of different age groups. Swings are a popular playground option, and many busy playgrounds do not have enough swings to accommodate all the children who want to swing at one time. Be sure to install enough swings, and while you are at it, you may want to consider increasing your handicap accessibility by having an adult swing installed for those members of the community who are no longer able to fit in children’s swings. These are popular for teenagers and adults who have disabilities.

Climbing Wall

Climbing walls have increased in popularity in the last decade, replacing the old rope ladders and flimsy climbing equipment of the past. These climbing walls are sometimes part of the actual main playground structure, but many parks choose to install freestanding climbing walls as well.

Monkey Bars or Rings

Kids love swinging on monkey bars or rings. Plus, this is an excellent way to build upper body strength, making it a popular piece of playground equipment for adults, as well. Be sure to match the height of the bars or rings to the primary age range for the playground equipment. Once again, it may be helpful to have two different sizes to accommodate the most people.
